Membership plan types

Recurring, non-recurring and punchcard plans, and how each one is paid and ends.

Every membership plan is one of three types. The type decides how members pay for it and when their membership ends. You pick it when you create the plan, and it can't be changed afterwards.

Recurring plans

A recurring plan bills every week or month, or every few weeks or months: a yearly plan bills every 12 months. Its Billing day option sets the day:

  • Charge on the purchase date: the member pays the full price when they join, and again on the same day each period.
  • Charge on a fixed day each month or week: everyone renews on the Set day. The first payment covers only the days up to that day, plus any setup fee.

On each billing date, at midnight on your business's clock, Finegym creates the next invoice and emails it to the member. A membership paid by card is charged on its saved card; one paid manually gets an open invoice for you to collect. A recurring plan can also have a commitment and a cancellation policy: see Set a plan's limits and restrictions.

Once a recurring plan is saved, its billing and commitment can't change, because members bought it on those terms.

Non-recurring plans

A non-recurring plan is paid once and lasts a set time from its start date. A one-week pass that starts on a Monday ends on the Sunday. Nothing renews: to continue, the member buys or is assigned another plan.

Punchcard plans

A punchcard holds a number of visits (Visits included). Each booking of a class or appointment uses one, and so does each facility check-in; checking in to a booking doesn't use another. Turn on Unused visits expire to make what's left run out after a time, such as 10 visits within 3 months. A drop-in is a punchcard with one visit. When a member uses their last visit, Finegym sends them the Punchcard completed email.

A usage limit on a punchcard sets the pace, not the total: 20 visits at most 4 a week.

Options every plan has

  • Setup fee: charged once, on the member's first invoice. A Charge amount of 0 makes the plan free.
  • Shareable with family: the people in the holder's family check in and book on it, and share its usage limit. See Families and dependents.
  • One per member: a member can have it only once, ever, as with a trial.
  • Limit quantity: selling stops when the number you set has been sold.
  • Show on member app and Show on website: where members can buy it themselves. Show on website also covers the front desk kiosk. Staff can assign any active plan either way.

Start from a template

When you add a plan, Start from a template offers the plans most businesses sell, such as Unlimited monthly, Day pass or 10-visit pack, filled in for you. You add the price and change anything else before you create it.
